FARE is a Beninese fashion brand founded in Cotonou in 2024. We make menswear from Beninese cotton, dyed by hand and cut in short-circuit production, fifty pieces per model.
Every garment carries culture and emotion, transforming traditional textiles and artisanal techniques into modern expressions of style. As a Beninese fashion brand, we work only with materials grown, woven and dyed in this country.
Benin is one of West Africa's top cotton producers. Yet most of that fiber leaves raw, untransformed, only to return as imported garments on our own bodies. We export the material. We buy back the shadow.
FARE refuses that logic. There is no Beninese fashion without Beninese materials. No credible local creation that turns its back on what this land produces, what the hands here know how to do. Working with local cotton isn't a trend or a sustainability pitch, it's a position. A decision to keep the full chain of value here: from fiber to finished garment, from soil to skin.
Fifty pieces per model. No overproduction, no warehouse, no clearance. Everything moves within a short circuit, from the field to the studio to you.
Nothing here is made alone. Our studio sits in Sèmè, on the road to Porto-Novo. From there, the work passes through hands that have held it for generations.
The kanvo is woven in Abomey by Agonglovo. Thread by thread, the pattern is built into the cloth rather than printed onto it. It takes days to weave what takes minutes to print.
The indigo is dyed by Dame Joséphine. Each bath is her own reading of temperature, timing and depth — which is why no two pieces come out the same blue.
The cutting and sewing happen at Atelier 91 in Calavi, led by Sika. Every seam is placed by hand.
Industrial fashion wants perfect, repeatable colour. Vegetable dyeing is a conversation between plant, fabric, and hand. Indigo, kola, mango leaf, each bath negotiates with the material, with the heat, with the moment. No two pieces come out identical. That's not a flaw. That's the point.
These dye plants are rooted in Beninese and West African knowledge. They existed long before synthetic dyes, long before sustainability became a selling point. We're not rediscovering them. We're continuing them.

Since 2024, FARE has explored how African fabrics and handcraft methods can be reimagined for a contemporary, globally-conscious aesthetic. The brand draws inspiration from everyday life, the rhythm of the streets, the geometry of architecture, and the poetry in ordinary moments, translating it into clean forms, thoughtful silhouettes, and textures that honour tradition while speaking a universal language.
